Spring for Cotton Ceylon

Hello all :)

So here it is, the final version of the Colette Ceylon dress!
You are probably sick of hearing of it by now, and I am quite frankly sick of the whole dress. Making three versions of the same pattern back to back will do that to you, but never mind that:)

This is made with 100% organic cotton with a tree and leaf print, and a wee bit of contrasting baby corduroy (also all cotton). I opted for flat plastic buttons this time, as the self covered kit ones were just crappy. I also added a little to the length, as I wanted my knees covered (she said, sounding 98 years old). Yes, I am a lady after all!!

Trustwothy buttons, with a vintage vibe.

For a spring dress, I definitely like the green one better. It is so cheery and vibrant. This just feels like fall to me, but that's alright. I do like how the contrasting yoke is great for brooch display, though :)
The main fabric is rather light weigth, and I don't think it drapes as nicely as the seersucker. I also still feel that the print is too large for my liking.

I was also planning on having a belt for this one, in the contrast color. But as faith wanted it, a buckle was no where to be found, so that obviously didn't happen. I think it might look good, so I'll still be on the look-out for a suitable buckle.

At some point in the process, I was debating whether I should also do the sleeves in the darker color. I decided against it this time around, but on future Ceylons, it may very well be a nice addition to the dress.

So now, let's move on from this Ceylon business!

    1. Thank you! I think it's just my personality that's had enough Ceylon for now :) I need new challenges! I will probably make more in the future, but now I have my sights set on new things!

  3. This is gorgeous, so sophisticated. I love the green one which is very fun but this is beautiful in a different elegant way. love the buttons you used. I can also imagine a version with the sleeves and yoke in a contrast fabric, it would look like a cute little bolero.

Yes, they did come out rather different, didn't they?

  5. Gorgeous! I agree with what you said last post that it is more of a fall style but nonetheless it is awesome.

  7. Sorry but I have to disagree with you.. totally love everything about this dress on you .. contrast perfect .. print just the right size...on par or just pipping the green version ..I do agree a contest belt would be a little bit of icing. A seriously fab dress xxx

    1. These are the kinds of disagreements I like ;) Thank you, Amanda!
I guess I am just ready for something new, I will probably like it better when I have forgotten the process :D

  8. Hello. I just looked at your shorts from last sommer, made from the pattern "Wearing History Sailor girl short pattern". I am looking for a pattern just like this! do you know where I could find it.? Or is it possible to buy a copy from you? Ana

    1. Hey Ana! As much as I would love to help you out with the pattern, it wouldn't be right to sell you a copy. There are copyrights after all. I would advise you to buy the pattern from Wearing History, it really is a great pattern and you get several garments in the packet, so good value for money :) Alternatively, you could search Ebay or Etsy for short patterns in a similar style! Happy hunting :)

  10. I also find myself adding length to skirts to cover my knees. I like the fit. I also love your shoes. I always drool over retro shoes. They are perfect for the dress.

    1. Thank you Cherie ;) The shoes were a lucky thrift find. I like the way they look, but they are killing my feet. They are nice for just sitting around looking pretty, though ;)
