Hi all!
Summer holiday this year has been delightful! The weather has been sunny and HOT for weeks and weeks, totally novel for Norway but great non the less!
I went up north for a week to visit my parents, always nice to see them since we live so far apart.
The rest of my three weeks off work, I've spent at home. So this is the final week of freedom before it's back to factory life again. But let's not talk about that!
I have some new makes to show you!
It all started with reading this blog post, and then totally falling in love with the stripey 50s sun top made from Mrs Depew's pattern. I just had to make one for myself, and I had the perfect fabric in my stash too!
It was such a quick and easy make, and I finally got to try stripe matching. It went rather well, if my eyes are not deceiving me. When the top was done, I realized I had nothing that matched it, other than black jeans. And that's just out of the question in this heat. So, I had to make shorts too!
I used the Wearing History Sailor girl short pattern I used to make my lobster shorts. It is a great pattern, but now that they are made up, I don't know if it was the best choice. The stripes make me look bigger somehow, and I am not sure I am loving that! It is also maybe a bit costumy for everyday wear, but they do look fun in the pictures. That being said, I enjoyed making these, and I even lined them with white cotton voile! Another new skill.
Fully lined, oh yes! |
Found some blingy buttons too! |
I think I will try to find a pattern for "normal" shorts to go with this sun top, and make it in black fabric. Or maybe a pair of white capris?
I know I will wear this top to death, I love love LOVE how it looks! I already got new ones planned...
But the shorts....meh.
I only show you this to boast my stripe matching. |
My rear looks just sad in these shorts, the lobster ones looks so much better... So let's just look at the top again, shall we?? ;)
I am a bit proud of the matching on the front. I am allowed, right? |
So there you have it! A Mrs Depew top and a WH Sailor Girl short.
Have you been getting any sunny sewing done? Or are you suffering in the heat?
That top is so retro and attractive! I agree with you on the shorts. What if you shortened them?
ReplyDeleteThanks Barbara! I've been pondering that myself, but I really think the high waist is bugging me the most. I think a small hot pant like short would be awesome :) I will have to experiment a little before I throw it away completely. Thanks for your input, it is most welcome :)
DeleteI am like you in that I get SUCH satisfaction in matching stripes (or seams, or darts, or anything that ends up looking like it's supposed to!)
ReplyDeleteSo, I'm just stopping by to say NICE JOB with the stripe matching! I totally get it! :)
Thank you SO much! I know it can't be a big deal if you've been sewing for ages, but for me it IS a big deal :)
DeleteWow! very nice! And I love your curls!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Anthea :) If only I could be bothered to do it more often :D
ReplyDeleteLove it!!!
ReplyDeleteSorry that you feel like the shorts are a dud, but I like the way they look, if it makes you feel any better :)
Super sexy outfit without looking like you're trying to look sexy, which is the best! And hats off to you for the gorgeous stripe matching!
What she said!
DeleteI think the shorts would look not so good with a tucked in top, but the bare middle makes the high waist just right.
But you might like them more a couple of inches shorter. The top is skimpy and I a skimpier short might give it more balance.
Just a thought. Great job on the stripes!
Thank you Erin! Well, I guess this short style is either love or hate. The lobsters I love, but this one...I feel my backside is missing something. I should've stuck some pockets on there perhaps :)
ReplyDeleteWow, it looks fantastic! ♥
ReplyDeleteThank you:)
DeleteI've also read the first post you mentioned and fell in love with all the playsuits that are around at the moment. Your stripes match beautifully - I would love to see the top with white capris - think that would look fabulous!
ReplyDeleteYes, I think the top would rock some capris! Just need to find that right pattern. And master pant fitting! Eeek!
DeleteThis style suits you so well! I really like the shorts on you, they look great with the top. Fantastic stripe matching! You have a great sun-tan, Norway has obviously had great weather :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you! Summer has been like a fairytale this year, I can't remember a summer this sunny :) Hot, but lovely!
DeleteSo glad to know my outfit was an inspiration for someone! I LOVE the black and white stripe, and I that top would look fabulous with some solid pants. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Evie, for inspiring me! Without you, I wouldn't have tried that top pattern. It really is a gorgeous top. The drawing on the pattern cover does NOT do it justice!
DeleteVery , very beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lizzy :)
DeleteI agree w/ Siri Andersen, the drawing doesn't look as good as you in it! Great stripe matching! It makes all the difference in NOT looking homemade. I like the way it looks together b/c the 1940s play suits for beach + poolside were always matching. The high-waisted shorts are cute even if you don't think they flatter with your top. I think you are right, if you switched to solid white or black, it wouldn't be so match-y or "costume." It lays so nicely, did you put any boning in it?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliment, Olliver :)
DeleteI didn't use any boning in this, but I am now wondering about turning the top into a dress bodice, and that WILL have boning :) A bit excited about that idea!
Love love love how cute this is! The top is amazing. The shorts are cute, too - even though you don't care for them. I think the stripes were a great choice. :D
